It’s finally here. The first magazine by a band about bands.
The premier issue of Plumage and Blubber, the new magazine from Birmingham, AL rock band Vulture Whale, hit newsstands today. It’s a first for both the music and publication industries: a glossy monthly- chronicling the band’s trials, tribs, musings, sage wisdom, and cutting commentary on a discombobulated music industry.
Already on a feverishly paced ascension into rock n roll immortality, Vulture Whale decided to venture into the publication business in order to “trim the fluff and expose the fat of music as we know it and knew it,” according to a source close to the band.
The publication is sure to ruffle some industry fat cat feathers, but that doesn’t bother Vulture Whale. Said the band via their spokesperson, “All we want to do is play our rock music. But sometimes being in a band means becoming an interdisciplinary, fully-digestible art product that’s music-centric and readily available via multiple consumer channels. We thought a having magazine would help enhance our media mix.”
Sources at the magazine research firm, Benchmark, report that copies of the premier issue of P&B are flying off the shelves. The band’s staff are working all hours to fulfill subscriptions and take advertising orders, and the printing house is furiously cranking more copies.
VW’s spokesperson conveyed the band’s wishes to make it clear that the publication is produced entirely using recycled materials. And that magazine itself is not only recyclable- it’s edible! “You can take any page of the magazine including the cover and roll up your favorite cold cuts or leftovers and just go to town. The magazine is not perishable, per se, but totally digestible.”
We’ll say! The article on Merch Girls is totally hot, and Jaco Tremendez is super-entertaining if not downright inspiring. And when you’re done reading it, you can dip it in your favorite queso for an eco-friendly snack.
